The Bundle of Sticks
An old man had three sons. He was not happy because his sons often quarreled with one another.
One day, the old man called his sons and said, “Bring me a bundle of sticks.” The sons asked their servant to fetch it. After a few minutes, the servant returned with a bundle of sticks.
The old man then called his sons to him and said, “Here is a bundle of sticks in front of you. Try to break it.”
The sons tried to break the bundle of sticks, but they failed.
The old man then said, “Now untie the bundle. Take one stick at a time and break it.”
Each son took a stick and broke it easily.
The father said to his sons, “Now learn a lesson, my dear boys. Do not quarrel with one another. Live together in harmony, and you will be happy and strong. United we stand, divided we fall.”
The three sons learned their lesson and remained united until their death.
